Patterson began advocating for criminal justice reform in———- with The Texas Organizing Project. She participated in legislature for policies such as ‘bail reform’ voter registration’, ‘right to justice’ , just to name a few. Little did she know that the trajectory of her advocacy would soon become personal. Her youngest son DeMarcus was murdered in Dallas in 2017, and her oldest son was convicted on a life sentence as the Dallas Serial Rapist.
Patterson always instilled in her children, that “a lie will eventually, tell the truth.” Believing her sons cry of innocence and watching the case unraveling, Patterson hired attorney, Bradrick Collins, who has tirelessly fought for his client, by dismantling DNA evidence which clearly exonerates his client, and other pertinent facts that were overlooked during his trial. Patterson states that this journey that has been assigned to her hands is for all the Dralon Pattersons that have been wrongfully convicted and loved ones didn’t know how to navigate the system on their behalf.
